![]() Mr. Lali Esfandiar, designer of the memorial Persian carpet for the World Cup of South Africa 2010
![]() Mr. Lali Esfandiar was born in Iran in 1965 to a family with a long lineage of musicians, calligraphers, and poets. He studied Persian calligraphy and the Tonbak, a Persian percussion instrument said to be one of the most difficult instruments to master. Since 1988, Mr Esfandiar has been active in promoting Persian arts in Japan. He organizes Persian calligraphy exhibitions and gives Tonbak performances that appeal to audiences of all ages. He also holds in-store Persian carpet exhibitions and introduces new carpet designs. Mr. Esfandiar has also exhibited and performed throughout Europe, in countries such as Denmark, Austria, France, Spain, and Italy. The memorial Persian carpet for the World Cup of South Africa 2010, features a design by Mr. Esfandiar’s that conveys the excitement of the World Cup playoffs.
