Memorial Persian Carpet for Soccer World Cup South Africa 2010
The Memorial Persian Carpet for Soccer World Cup South Africa 2010 completed
according to the original plan under the auspices of Sun Ai Carpet Company,
Japan. Weaving began in October 2008 at a first-knot tying ceremony, held
at the Iranian Embassy of Tokyo. The first three knots were tied by Seyyed
Abbas Araguchi, Iran’s Ambassador to Japan, Ms. Akiko Santo, Former Vice President
of the House of Councilors, and Mr. Kenshiro Matsunami, Ex-member of the
House of Representatives. The Carpet Guild Union of Iran has granted special
permission to the producers to officially label the Memorial World Cup
Carpet as a “Persian Carpet”. Usually the only carpet that are 100 % made
in Iran can bear the designation.

Mr. Lali Esfandiar, who is a friend of Mr. Kazemihamed, created the computer-generated design for this carpet. Mr. Kazemihamed conducted all other steps of production process.
The design incorporates an image of Mt. Fuji, symbol of Japan, wove into the lower part of the carpet, and the wild African Savanna set above. The Universe, the Sun and the Earth, the symbol of soccer passion, occupied the center, and doves, symbols of peace, graced the design.
The dyeing of the yarn is done in Japan, and the weaving method used is Turkish knots. There are 256 different colors in the finished carpet, and its quality equals that of the previous memorial carpets.
Sun Ai Carpet Company plan to organize a nation-wide touring exhibit of the completed work, so that people all over Japan can have the opportunity to see the art piece closely.
Please contact to Sun Ai Carpet Company if your organizations wish to exhibit this carpet.
